Miles Miller
Jazzy, funky, bluesy, with just a touch of Americana—that’s Miles Miller and the trio backing him in a nutshell. They kicked things off with “Mr Runaway,” a smooth, catchy tune that instantly gets you in the groove. From there, the set just kept building, with bluesy guitar solos, lively keyboard riffs, and Miles holding it all together on drums, keeping the beat tight. With songs like “Stormy”, “Weightless”, and “Highway Shoes” pouring energy into every solo and filling the room with sound that hangs in the air long after each note. If you’re into this vibe, you’ll definitely want to check out their new record coming out September 12th.
Briscoe
It was a week before this show that I was inquired about Briscoe, and I instantly tuned my Apple music to their catalog. The soulful voices of Philip Lupton and Truett Heintzelman flowed smoothly through the Encore venue, treating the crowd to a blissful evening of Americana. It was worth the week-long anticipation since I first stumbled on their music. The duo are quickly making me fall even harder for Americana and folk.
The show kicked off their new tour in Kansas City with their full band, and the energy was immediate. The real magic of the show happened when the two unplugged and stepped down into the crowd for a couple of acoustic covers. “Clay Pigeons” started the acoustic set, and the room went completely silent. I mean, you could have heard a pin drop. No side chatter, no distractions—just the music and this incredible sense of calm and serenity. “Scattered Mind” followed, continuing that peaceful vibe before they returned to the stage for the final portion of the show.
Philip’s saxophone give their music a depth and power that another guitar just couldn’t have matched. The night ended on a high note with an upbeat, fiery rendition of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues,” leaving me with goosebumps.
If you’re into Americana/Folk, Briscoe is not to be missed—and their new record drops September 19th, so check it out when it drops later this month.
