Lucinda Williams, World’s Gone Wrong ⭐️⭐️❌❌❌
Legendary songwriter, Lucinda Williams, is back with her 16th album. I have no idea why, but I was under the impression that Lucinda Williams was the daughter of Hank Williams. She is not. I have no idea why I thought she was, but… Yeah.
Anyways, this album is very topical. Or, it tries to be. Obviously she couldn’t predict that this album would come out right as there is a genuine federal siege on a major American city with law abiding American citizens being kidnapped off the street, brutalized, and gunned down in the street. So, yeah, the tone of this album doesn’t match the fever pitch anger that the average American is feeling right now. It’s very 2016 #resistance in comparison. But that’s the risk you take writing a topical, political album in the day and age of the relentless 24 hour news cycle. You almost have to release it immediately after writing and recording, or it’ll be aged by the time it comes out.
But falling short on the topical front or not, the storytelling is good here. But unfortunately the music is very hit or miss for me. On a lot of this she seems to be going for a very anthemic feel, and it just falls flat. But there are moments when it’s more laid back where the music really shines.
