Jack White, No Name ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Third Man himself is back with his wildest release yet. It’s not so much the music that’s wild, but the way he’s chosen to release this surprise album. Third Man Records locations were giving the album out for free to anybody who made a purchase, and Third Man Records Vault subscribers also received it in the mail. Definitely one of the wildest album launches I’ve ever seen. And what’s even crazier is that fans were encouraged to rip the audio from the vinyl and share it online.
But anyways, is the music any good? Yes! Jack White is taking it back to basics… Kind of. While this is probably his most straightforward blues garage rock solo album, it’s still filled with his eccentricities. As a listener who appreciates when Jack indulges in his more eccentric tastes, this is great. You get the best of both worlds, as Jack seems to finally nail the balancing act between his newer, wilder inclinations, and his roots.
To me, this album feels like a continuation of his 2022 dual albums, Fear of the Dawn and Entering Heaven Alive, which is great. Fear of the Dawn was the futurist rock album, Entering Heaven Alive was the stripped down acoustic album, and now No Name is the more stripped down rock album.
Obviously you can’t find this on streaming services, but since Third Man Records is encouraging this, and other publications have shared this link, here’s a weekly mini review first. A free album!
