Miley Cyrus, Something Beautiful ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❌

Miley Cyrus is back with a new album, and this is her serious one. Every pop star nowadays has their serious album(s). You can tell this is her serious album because she released a film (sorry, visual album) to go with it, and because the track list includes songs named things like “Prelude,” “Interlude 1,” and “Interlude 2.”

No, but all snark and joking aside, I actually really enjoyed this. She took a swing, and absolutely landed it. Whenever an artist makes an album and promotes it like it’s their magnum opus, grand statement before it even comes out, they risk it releasing and flopping, and just coming across as pretentious and lacking merit. But this album works.

Miley’s voice is great enough to work over any sort of music, but this throwback James Bond theme-esque sound is very conducive to her voice. And the lush production and vibrant instrumentation is very pleasant on the ears. Very well executed, and honestly worthy of her pre-release self hype.

Favorite song: “Pretend You’re God”
