Spinal Tap, The End Continues ⭐️⭐️❌❌❌

The legendary Spinal Tap is back with a new album, and a new movie. I was so excited when I saw this had come out, especially when I saw Elton John and Paul McCartney on the tracklist. Spinal Tap/McCartney has the potential to be the new Lennon/McCartney.

But unfortunately, and this review hurts my soul, but this album is a mixed bag to say the least. The satire is stale at this point, but that’s no fault of their own. It’s just that these old rock bands that still release music have jumped the shark so long ago. Like, most of this album honestly wouldn’t feel out of place on the latest Rolling Stones album.

There are highlights here, though. Like Paul McCartney singing the Spinal Tap classic “Cups and Cakes,” or “The Devil’s Just Not Getting Old.” But a lot of this just feels stale. The best satire on this album is the production. It’s so over the top and busy, just like all of these old timer band albums these days. But I also can’t really tell if that’s the joke, or if it just sounds like because they have the same shoddy production.

I’m still hopeful for the movie, though! Also, maybe the movie adds context to the album like how their first movie and album did? I don’t know. But I still feel like they should would independent of each other, so I still think it’s lackluster either way.

Favorite song: “Cups and Cakes”
