St Patrick’s Day Celebrations in Clay Center, KS…
Hey, Harrison.
Yea.
It’s way past St. Patty’s Day. It’s past Easter, even.
I know, just…just work with me on this.
Fine.
Anyways, St Patrick’s Day in Clay Center this year featured the first Family Fun Fest, an event put on by Rodney and Sylvia Hunter (aka DJ Lightning Rod and DJ Thunder) and Dwayne Peay. Since Covid, the need to get families out in communities seems to have be an issue for locales of all sizes, and Clay Center is no exception. This years inaugural event featured Live Music, Vendors, Bouncy Houses, and some fantastic weather. Their goal is to put on another event this time next year with more live music, and keep giving the people in and around Clay Center an event to go out to during the St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Currently, they plan on hosting a similar event in Manhattan in May.
I’ll be honest, I have never really connected Clay Center with music at all, let alone metal. Being a hop skip and a jump away (well, 40 minutes) from Manhattan, I imagined the music scene was there instead. But despite that mindset, there are those that want to bring music to the small locale of Clay Center. For St Patrick’s Day this year, local melodic thrash/death metal artists Imajjjin took the stage and shut down the evening with a series of originals and covers. Comprised of Jesse Nichols and Jackson Hoyle on Guitar, Steve Pitt on Drums, Adam Gordy on Bass, and Fallon on Vocals, however tonight their vocalist was out ill and former vocalist Ian Davies stepped in to take over duties for the evening. The crowd was limited, but filled with dedicated fans of all ages, including a young girl who had no fear in getting up on the steps of the band shell and taking it all in.
Imajjjin will soon be heading out on a short tour up to Wyoming and back through Colorado in May. If you get the chance, check them out
