Centennial Lanes, Hays, KS
The Other Side, as a mirror in the room to the north of Centennial Lanes says, feels a lot like a “What The Fuck Is Up, Dennys?” kind of place. It’s not necessarily big, but just about the perfect size for a small hardcore show on a Saturday night. Something that Hays hasn’t seen in a little while. From Kansas City, Remorsefully Numb, visited along with Wichita’s Love Lost, brought the hardcore scene with local’s Kuwabara and Billy. It’s shows like this that spew a youthful energy that reignite the flames of my early twenties. A tinge of anger and noise met with a beautiful passion of expression, just aching to find its way out in some form. Feeling something, anything to expel and enjoy the power of music. Everyone has something that makes them feel young again. For myself, it’s the music scene. Surrounding myself with musicians and their fans, feeding off the energy of the night, standing at the edge of the mosh pit as those younger and more agile (and less prone to feeling like they’ve been through a tornado the next couple of days), it’s the experience that keeps someone going. Whatever yours may be, enjoy it as often as you can. Saturday night was chaotically beautiful, and I need more of it.
