Hunter's Weekly Album Mini-Reviews

February 13, Charli xcx – Wuthering Heights

Charli xcx, Wuthering Heights ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Charli xcx is having a hell of a year. Her new mockumentary, The Moment, just came out, and now she’s dropped this album. It’s billed as a soundtrack to the new Wuthering Heights film, but it is really just a new Charli album. The film might be polarizing, but this album should not be. As I alluded to just then, this album is great. I’ll just get that out of the way up top. Listening to this album is a visceral experience at times. Starting with the first track, the very ominous “House featuring John...

February 6th, Puscifer – Normal Isn’t

Puscifer, Normal Isn’t ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❌ Puscifer is back with a new album. Puscifer is a great band name, by the way. Sometimes I’ll see people online saying it’s a bad band name, or it’s cringe. I completely disagree. Also, I’m guessing these people have never tried to think up a band name. Go ahead and try it. But anyways, this album is dark, moody, a slow burn, and surprisingly, above all else, pretty funny. The music is very gothic inspired. January 29, Beck – Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime

Beck, Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❌ Beck is back with a surprise release. This is a new compilation of love songs just in time for Valentine’s Day. Included is “Ramona” which of course was released on the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World soundtrack. Confession: I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen that full movie. But anyways, this is all covers, except the aforementioned “Ramona.” Beck’s choices of covers here are an eclectic bunch, as you would probably expect, but he does them all justice. He never really radically reworks them musically or melodically, but rather faithfully takes them and just...

January 23rd, Lucinda Williams – World’s Gone Wrong

Lucinda Williams, World’s Gone Wrong ⭐️⭐️❌❌❌ Legendary songwriter, Lucinda Williams, is back with her 16th album. I have no idea why, but I was under the impression that Lucinda Williams was the daughter of Hank Williams. She is not. I have no idea why I thought she was, but… Yeah. Anyways, this album is very topical. Or, it tries to be. Obviously she couldn’t predict that this album would come out right as there is a genuine federal siege on a major American city with law abiding American citizens being kidnapped off the street, brutalized, and gunned down in the...
