Hunter's Weekly Album Mini-Reviews

December 20th, A Complete Unknown (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

A Complete Unknown (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❌ Every performance here is great. Timothée Chalamet nails Bob Dylan’s voice, especially on the electric tracks. But also Monica Barbaro also nails Joan Baez. Those are two of the most singular, unique voices ever, and they absolutely got them down.  My one complaint is that basically all of these songs are shortened with verses missing. I get it from a film standpoint, because obviously Dylan songs tend to be long. But why couldn’t they just record the full thing for the soundtrack at least? Also, there are songs that are in the...

December 13th, Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre – Missionary

Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre, Missionary ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre are back together with a new collaborative album. Apparently this was supposed to come out last year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their seminal Doggystyle album, hints the title Missionary. But I actually think it works better being released this year with the old school West Coast sound revival we’ve seen. This is the perfect cherry on top to end this year. And while that nostalgia does play a part in this album, it’s not used as a crutch.  What drives this album is Dre and Snoop’s...

December 6th, ROSÉ – rosie

ROSÉ, rosie ⭐️⭐️❌❌❌ BLACKPINK star ROSÉ is here with her first solo album. Close your eyes, and imagine a pop album in 2024. Yep, that is this album. It is one of the most middle of the road albums you will hear this year.  There are plenty of moments here to make it an enjoyable listen, I’m not saying it’s technically bad. But it’s also wholly paint-by-numbers sounding, and that is the problem. This sounds like pop music developed in a lab. There’s no real personality to it, and because of that I didn’t walk away from this with a...

November 30th, Juice WRLD – The Party Never Ends

Juice WRLD, The Party Never Ends ⭐️❌❌❌❌ This is supposed to be Juice WRLD’s last album, and probably for good cause. There are good posthumous releases, and then there is this. From the bizarre cover art, to the very throwaway nature of the tracks featured here, it’s just not good. His estate has apparently claimed that there are 3,000 quality songs in the vault, which I highly doubt for a multitude of reasons, but first and foremost because it sounds like they’re already scraping the bottom of the barrel. Don’t really have anything more to say.  I decided to dig...
