Hunter's Weekly Album Mini-Reviews

May 29, Paul McCartney – The Boys of Dungeon Lane

Paul McCartney, The Boys of Dungeon Lane ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❌ At 83 years old, Paul McCartney really needs his lucky break before it’s too late. He’s toiled in obscurity and anonymity for decades now. Will this finally be the album that gets him some recognition? No, but seriously… This is the most consistent album Paul McCartney has made in years. There are shades of Ram here. There’s also a lot of the tropes we’ve come to expect with old man Paul. But he breaks up the monotony with some vintage Paul experimentation. I definitely recommend this album. Not only as a nice...

May 22, Chuck D & John Densmore – do+pe = no country for old men

Chuck D & John Densmore, do+pe = no country for old men ⭐️❌❌❌❌ I listened to this album because Chuck D actually just released one of my favorite albums of last year, and I was like, “Following that up with a collab with the drummer from The Doors? Interesting.” But no… I was wrong. Not interesting. At least not in a good way. This is, without a doubt, the worst album I have listened to in my 3 years of doing these weekly reviews, and it’s not even close. Absolutely horrible. Towa Bird, Gentleman ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Towa Bird is back with her second album. Towa Bird might be one of the greatest alt rock/alt pop names ever. It just sounds like a real rockstar’s name. But anyways, I really had no idea what to expect here. I never heard her first album. But man, this album has converted me into a fan. The songwriting is so good, and her musicianship is on full display. I do wish she had let loose on the guitar a little more, though. The production is also top notch. The vocals are mixed to perfection, and nothing...

May 8, The Lemon Twigs – Look For Your Mind!

The Lemon Twigs, Look For Your Mind! ⭐️⭐️⭐️❌❌ The Lemon Twigs are back with their sixth album. They always do a skillfully done pastiche of 60s and 70s music. And this time their target is set on early-mid 60s. The sound of this album is straight from an AM radio in 1964. I mean, you can almost hear it fitting it between the latest from The Animals and The Zombies. It really is pretty impressive how close they are to that sound, songwriting and production wise. The problem though, is that they’re mimicking second to third tier 60s groups on...
