Willie Nelson turned 92 years old four days after releasing this. That is ridiculous. At this point, anybody trying to sell people on what all health benefits weed may have just need to carry around a picture of Willie in their pocket.
Now, that being said, am I really about to criticize a 92 year old man? Unfortunately, yes. After being blown away last year by his album The Border, I was really looking forward to this album. But this album, while still good, is just not on the same level as that one.
The production took a step down to my ears, and a lot of the songs get too lost in sentimentality and cliches. But, again, he’s a 92 year old man. It has to be hard to write songs that aren’t steeped in sentimentality. The fact he can still do this, and do it as well as he does, is a miracle.
