Kesha, . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❌
Kesha, formerly Ke$ha, is back with a new album. The first on her new record label, cleverly named Kesha Records. Of course Kesha has famously been through the wringer when it comes to dealing with the abusive and exploitative nature of the music industry, so it is nice to see her find independence within it. And to debut your new record label with an album this good has to be a proud moment for her.
This album is great sounding, catchy as Hell, and incapsulates everything Kesha. If you don’t start moving to the songs on this album you don’t have a pulse. Every song has a memorable melody or moment. And it’s very Kesha. Feminist, but also unapologetically sleaze and grime.
This really plays like a greatest hits album. There’s a lot of 2010s nostalgia because, obviously, Kesha embodies that sound. Which leads me to my one complaint with this album. For the most part, they did a good job of toeing that line of fun nostalgia that adds to the sound, versus sad nostalgia that’s just trying to reclaim the past. But… There were a few moments here where they went a little overboard and really hit you over the head with it.
Overall, this is just a fun album that’s a celebration of all things Kesha. And even though it goes a little too far into ‘member berry territory in a few places, it’s still just an infectious album.
Favorite song: “DELUSIONAL.”
