Reneé Rapp, Bite Me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❌
Actress turned pop star Reneé Rapp is back with a new album. All summer long I’ve been seeing articles about how there’s no pop mega hit, or a “Song of the Summer.” Which, yeah, compared to last summer when there was Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso,” Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe,” and even a ginormous rap hit with Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” things have been quiet. But there are songs on this album that had they lived up to their full commercial potential, could have filled that role.
This album musically is just fun. It feels like a party. The louder it gets, the better. A few different pop sounds are represented on this album, too. And it works for the most part. There are a couple songs here with a 1980s inflection which sound unnecessary and tacked on, but that doesn’t ruin the album. Also, I did not realize how great of a singer she is. Really great vocals here.
Lyrically there are lines here that could make Sabrina Carpenter blush. Very sexual, very funny (at times), and with a darker edge than the rest of pop stars in the field.
