The artist formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly is back with an album that was actually promoted by none other than Bob Dylan. I joked at the time that it had to be elder abuse. But now after listening to this album, it’s not a joke anymore. If Bob had to listen to any of this album, then his family should sue.
There are two types of bad albums, much like there are two types of bad movies. The type that are just so fascinatingly bad that they actually circle around and come out the other end as being tolerable. And then those that are just bad and boring. This album, unfortunately for me, and everybody else who listens, is just bad and boring.
For an ex rapper (although he does rap on a few songs on this) he sure is an unimaginative and lazy lyricist. Nothing but the most cliche phrases and lines. Which, he does have a song on here called “cliche,” so I guess he’s self aware. The most interesting part of this album is when he interpolates “Semi-Charmed Life” by Third Eye Blind on the song “starman.” So the fact that the most interesting part of this album is the use of the chorus of a song from nearly 30 years ago tells you all you need to know.
Favorite song: I don’t know. I’ll just go “starman” I guess.
