Sabrina Carpenter, Man’s Best Friend ⭐️⭐️❌❌❌
Children, advert your eyes and ears! Sabrina Carpenter is back with a new album, and boy, oh boy, the pearl clutchers are out in full force. Because, you know, there’s never been a female pop star that has embraced her sexuality. Never. Definitely not a decades long, generational tradition at this point.
But anyways, overly dramatic parents aside, this album is a bit of a surprise because she did just release an album, Short n’ Sweet, last year. And technically she’s still in the midst of that album cycle. But you know, why not release another one this soon after the last one was so huge. I am surprised there was only one single beforehand, though. It felt like half of Short n’ Sweet was released as singles before it finally dropped.
I actually liked this album quite a bit musically. It might actually be stronger in that front than Short n’ Sweet. It’s a lot more diverse. But Sabrina herself on this is really leaning into the humorous heightened pop diva character she has created, almost to the point of feeling forced. And her vocal mix on some of these songs is god awful. There were some songs where I actually had difficulty understanding what she was singing, which is very bad on an album where that’s supposed to be the focus. And it had nothing to do with her actual performance, just where and how it was sitting in the mix.
