Florence + the Machine, Everybody Scream ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❌
Florence Welch and co are back with a new album. It’s kind of tradition at this point for me to tell a joke in this first paragraph, so here it goes… When their playing live and the band messes up, do you think Florence ever has to rage against the Machine? Anyways, not my best work.
But, this album might just be Florence Welch’s best work. The lyricism is really superb here, with themes of witchcraft, physical pain and emotional grief, and the general anger that comes with being a woman in this world. Her thesis has never been clearer or more pronounced. It’s also fitting that this album was released on Halloween, because she really turned the witchiness up to 11 on here.
Musically and production wise it calls back to their earlier work. The rhythmic driving folk sound is back, and the vocals float above it perfectly. It really does feel like a return to a previous form.
