Kim Gordon, Play Me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❌
Sonic Youth alum, and indie rock legend, Kim Gordon is back with a new solo album. It’s called Play Me, which is actually a very helpful title. I wish more albums would come with instructions.
This album continues her experimentations with trip-hop music with producer Justin Raisen. Musically, it’s very potent, and lyrically very stream of consciousness, almost free verse at times. I think this sound suits her and her style well. It’s kind of the natural progression in my mind. It just makes sense.
The production is top notch. It keeps you unnerved, which is obviously the goal. It’s funny, because trip-hop is usually more easy listening, but then you have this beast of an album. There’s nothing easy about it.
