Green Day Saviors ⭐️⭐️⭐️❌❌
Every time Green Day releases an album I hold my breath. I’ve been rooting for them to make another great album since ¡Uno! started this string of completely forgettable records from them. Will this be the one?
Longtime producer Rob Cavallo is back for the first time since the aforementioned ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré! trilogy, and it definitely shows. Sonically, this is their best album since those. It also helps that Green Day’s songwriting, musically, is as sharp as ever here, and Billie Joe’s vocals might honestly somehow be the best they’ve ever been.
But where this album fails is where most Green Day albums fail… Predictability. The song structures are all familiar, and the political themes that Billie Joe touches on are tired at this point. Where the band really shines on this album is when they switch up the pace and play something sweeter and more sentimental. “Goodnight Adeline” and “Father to a Son” are the best songs they’ve written since 21st Century Breakdown.
