Gracie Abrams, The Secret of Us ⭐️❌❌❌❌
Daughter of J. J. Abrams and apparently best friend of Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams, is back with her sophomore album. The reason I introduced her like that is because, one, I didn’t realize J. J. Abrams was her father until today, so I thought I would share that fun trivia. And two, because she really, really, REALLY wants you to know that she is besties with Taylor Swift.
When you go to the album on Apple Music and look at the written introduction/description, whatever you want to call it, Taylor Swift is mentioned four times. Then you look at the track list, and Taylor Swift is featured on one of the songs. Then you go check the press for this album and her Instagram, and Taylor Swift is all over there, too. Her shadow casts over this whole project.
Why do I bring this up? Because you can’t help but compare this album to Taylor Swift. Going into it, her presence is already felt, and then while you’re listening to it, it just sounds like a pale imitation of Taylor Swift. Both the lyricism and music sound like blatant attempts to cop her style, and with how much Gracie is highlighting her in this album cycle, I can’t help but think that this is a bit of a shameless attempt to cash in on the Taylor Swift effect. And looking at the sales numbers, I think it’s worked unfortunately.
