Album Review: El Trevino – Greatest Hits

Greatest Hits, the upcoming album from Garden City band El Trevino (Facebook / Instagram), releases on May 5th.

First of all, the album cover is great. It’s a nice mixture of trendy retroist design and humor. Looks like something your eyes would be drawn to on the shelves at a record store.

Musically, the album starts with a real lush opening track. The production stands out immediately. Said production was actually provided by a Fiverr user, and damn, did they get lucky with that find. Everything sits in the mix nicely, and there’s a lot of texture throughout the album.

Greatest Hits has many ear catching moments. The song “Walk Away” has a great sense of melody, and the song “Apology” has a nice part played on bells and a killer double track vocal. But the highlight of the album was probably “Artie Lang.”

“Artie Lang” starts off with a real South-of-the-border acoustic guitar rhythm, and soon evolves into a nice Rock groove. The best part is a verse where the lead guitar and vocals play off of each other with complementary melody lines. It sounds epic, for lack of a better term. And all the while the acoustic guitar keeps up the rhythm in the background. Again, this album has some really nice sound textures.

Greatest Hits has plenty for a Modern Rock fan to latch onto. Great production, and great songwriting.
