Nov. 10th, Cat Power Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert
When Cat Power first announced she would be recreating Bob Dylan’s iconic 1966 set at the Royal Albert Hall, I was instantly curious to see how it would turn out, and now I have my answer: Mostly good. The acoustic set is absolutely stunning. Cat’s vocals work wonders on these songs. The electric set, however, doesn’t take off like on the original. It sputters and fails to get off the ground for the most part.
I must say that I admire Cat Power’s courage in taking this on, and actually welcoming the comparisons to the original set. There are moments in the acoustic set that, dare I say, rival Bob’s original. “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue” in particular sticks out. Cat added her own subtle melodic flair to it that I’m sure will melt even the most stubborn Dylan purists heart.
