December 8th, Neil Young Before and After *MUST HEAR*
What is the purpose of this release? Well, I don’t really know. I guess he heard his buddy Bob Dylan do new renditions of his old songs on Shadow Kingdom, and decided he’d do his own take on it. And boy, I’m glad he did.
The song selection spans Neil Young’s entire career, and is by no means a greatest hits collection. Not even close. But the songs he has picked here sound amazing in this stripped-bare setting. There is one new song, “If You Got Love,” which actually just sounds like “Till the Morning Comes” from After the Gold Rush, but fleshed out beyond the simple segue piece it was there.
