The Lemon Twigs, Look For Your Mind! ⭐️⭐️⭐️❌❌
The Lemon Twigs are back with their sixth album. They always do a skillfully done pastiche of 60s and 70s music. And this time their target is set on early-mid 60s.
The sound of this album is straight from an AM radio in 1964. I mean, you can almost hear it fitting it between the latest from The Animals and The Zombies. It really is pretty impressive how close they are to that sound, songwriting and production wise.
The problem though, is that they’re mimicking second to third tier 60s groups on most of these tracks. And you can’t shake that context. So while it is a great pastiche, it’s a pastiche of stuff that just isn’t that interesting.
Overall, it’s a fun, faithful novelty, but lacks depth. I’m conflicted, because I do feel like they achieve what they set out to do, but I just don’t know how interesting it is.
