The Cure, Songs of a Lost World ⭐️⭐️⭐️❌❌

The Cure are back with their first album in 16 years. Usually albums like this from legacy acts don’t live up to the hype, but judging by the public reaction to it I think this one surprisingly has. I mean, I knew people would listen to it in droves just because they’re beloved, but I didn’t predict this overwhelmingly positive reaction to it.

My reaction to it, on the other hand, is very mixed. On the one hand, the songwriting is spectacular. The songs themselves are great. The intros are oddly long, but other than that there’s nothing to gripe about. It’s a great collection of songs.

The production, though, is where things start getting messy. There are moments on this album that sound like a rough mix to me with certain things not sitting well in the mix, namely the vocals and percussion. But the silver lining is that the bass tone is incredible.

Favorite song: “Drone:Nodrone”
