Kendrick Lamar, GNX ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Pack it up. It’s over. Kendrick Lamar has cemented 2024 as the Year of Kendrick. It wasn’t enough for his to dominate the rap beef of the century, it wasn’t enough for him to drop the song of the year, and it wasn’t even enough for him to single handedly unite the gangs of L.A. during a live-streamed concert on Juneteenth. No. He also had to drop this absolute gem of an album.
But don’t think that this album is merely a victory lap. Kendrick is still a man on a mission. He’s on the same warpath he was on earlier this year, it’s just that his focus isn’t on one single person this time, but rather the industry at large. But even with his rage being at the forefront of this album, there are also moments that are laugh out loud funny, too. Some of the tracks on here see Kendrick at the most lighthearted he’s been in years. For example, “peekaboo (feat. AzChike)”
The production on this album is very much in line with the tracks he released earlier this year, with a very fun, very West coast, throwback feel. This album feels like a direct response to the social media criticism that he doesn’t release radio hits, because this album is nothing but banger after banger. Complete 180 from the very melancholic and subdued Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers from just a couple years ago.
